SUD Clinical Supervisor-Four Winds Lodge

SUMMARY:
The Alcohol and Drug Program’s Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical supervision for alcohol and drug counselors to ensure individual and program quality assurance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prefer of a bachelor’s degree in counseling, chemical dependency, social work, psychology or AA/AAS degree in Human Services with Chemical Dependency Certificate.
• Two years experience in clinical supervision with alcohol and drug treatment program staff.
• Current Minnesota’s Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy LADC licensure or UMICAD III is required.
• Current approval as a clinical supervisor with Minnesota’s Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy or UMICAD approved.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in alcohol and drug treatment, counseling, and/or assessment.
• Considerable knowledge of Native American alcohol and drug treatment models, the disease concept and best practices approaches for addiction counseling services.
• Familiarity with the philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous.
• Knowledge of applicable Mille Lacs Band statutes, Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, and policies relating to services offered by alcohol and drug use treatment programs and providers.
• Knowledge of the resources available inside and outside the Mille Lacs Band that can be used to enhance the treatment of alcoholics and other drug users.
• Understanding of non-traditional and traditional treatment modalities.
• Familiarity with and sensitivity to culture and tradition of the Mille Lacs Band.
• Commitment to multi-cultural programming.
• Ability to teach the highest level of ethics and confidentiality, with respect to maintain quality assurance and integrity of the programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with program staff and others.
• Ability to write effectively.
• Advanced computer skills including Excel, Windows and Word.
• Many chemically dependent people relate better to a counselor that is in recovery and can act as a role model in successful recovery of an addiction. Therefore, while not mandatory that the incumbent be in recovery; consideration will be given to incumbent’s personal history. If in recovery, a minimum of 2 years of sobriety is required at time of hire and must be able to pass a Federal background check.
• Must have current driver’s license, reliable personal transportation and have proof of current insurance coverage. Must also be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band’s Auto Insurance Policy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Convincing program counselors that quality assurance is needed to provide consistent ethical client services.
• Select the most appropriate individual and beneficial clinical approach for clients.
• Interpreting and applying policy and procedures in compliance with Mille Lacs Band, Federal, State, statutes, laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
• Provide Alcohol and Drug Counselors with clinical supervision as to provide individual and family alcohol and drug use counseling, comprehensive assessments, treatment services and aftercare planning utilizing a variety of modalities for individuals, families and groups.
• Coordinate educational training for the Alcohol and Drug Counselor program staff.
• Network with other Tribal, State and County human services organizations.
• Educate and assist staff members to maintain appropriate records of referrals, service coordination and treatment services for clients.
• Conduct new Alcohol and Drug Counselor program orientation sessions.
• Meet with staff, both individually and in groups to review client cases as necessary with suggestions for better treatment and recovery outcomes.
• Provide liaison between Alcohol and Drug Counselor staff and other Mille Lacs Band program professionals.
• Assist Alcohol and Drug Counselors to confer with family and others close to client while he/she is in treatment to keep them informed of treatment planning and progress towards recovery.
• Assist Alcohol and Drug Counselors to recruit Mille Lacs Band Elders to serve in mentor role for those is outpatient treatment programs.
• Maintain confidentiality of all program participants and records in compliance with Mille Lacs Band, Federal, State, statutes, laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
• Information exchanges often involve complex issues in which the parties involved may have different objectives. Incumbent must be able to present complex information in a persuasive or compelling fashion, and to an Alcohol and Drug Counselor that may have currently diminished reasoning capabilities or practices that reduce their capacity to reason.
• Effective exchanges may require motivating, directing, or otherwise exerting control or influence on another. Such exchanges may have a substantial impact on the Band community and individual Band members.
• Compromise and concession making may be required to accomplish objectives.
• Must be able to maintain satisfactory working relationships with Alcohol and Drug Counselor, clients, their families and other staff members.
• Must be able to establish relationships with Alcohol and Drug Counselor built on trust, consistency and confidence.
• Must be able to understand and carry out directions from the program director.
• Alcohol and Drug Counselors may be reluctant to share information or may be unwilling to share all relevant information. Incumbent must be able to probe for more information without antagonizing staff members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences infrequent periods of moderate to high stress levels while dealing with Alcohol and Drug Counselor clients, family members, and others.
• Work is almost exclusively in doors in a controlled climate area.
• Little threat of personal danger or risk, although working with client case supervision may subject incumbent to periods of moderate to high stress levels.
• Hours are typically 8-5 but may also require occasional "on call' availability to cover emergency situations.
• Will involve working with many different people who are often distressed in some way.
• Local travel is required; travel outside the state is very limited.
