SALARY RANGE: $13.79 - $20.67

SUMMARY:
The Sexual Assault Advocate assists in providing victims of sexual assault with advocacy and support services and will be responsible for developing a sexual assault program which includes community outreach and sexual assault awareness presentations to schools and other groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.
• One year of experience working with knowledge of sexual assault issues.
• Knowledge of tribal customs, traditions and beliefs.
• Ability to work with effectively with a variety of professional level people.
• Strong listening, learning and communication skills.
• Experience working with Native American communities.
• Basic computer literacy skills.
• Strong commitment to ending sexual assault and stalking.
• Familiar with or willing to learn statutes regarding sexual assault and stalking.
• Familiar with laws regarding confidentiality and able to deal appropriately with confidential information.
• Capable of independent judgment and decision making.
• Public speaking and presentation skills.
• Experience in co-facilitating trainings and community education.
• Experience in co-facilitating support groups.
• Must have a current MN drivers license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for developing a sexual assault program.
• Assist victims and their children as necessary.
• Ability to answer crisis line telephone and provide crisis line back-up if needed.
• Function as an advocate for the victims of sexual assault.
• Facilitate support groups for victims of sexual assault.
• Provide crisis and support services to victims of sexual assault.
• Provide transportation for victims to court hearings and other related appointments.
• Maintain a working knowledge of policies, regulations, etc., in sexual assault field.
• Assist victims in requesting an Order for Protection, including writing requests for and Order for Protection (OFP) violations.
• Assist in various fund raising activities and the toy drive.
• Maintain an awareness of and inform victims on other resources they may be eligible for and in need of.
• Assist with the review and revision of policies and procedures and protocols.
• Recommend additional policies, procedures and protocols as appropriate.
• Notify those responsible for supply requisitions what supplies are needed.
• Assist with data collection for grant applications and grant reporting.
• Develop a sexual assault program which includes outreach for community support and sexual assault awareness presentations for schools, law enforcement, and other groups.
• Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work hours are typically eight hour shifts but incumbent may be required to take after-hour calls to handle emergencies. Will also be required to have and answer on-call phone as necessary.
• Nature of work is such that the incumbent will experience periods of moderate stress levels while dealing with victims, children, family members and others.
• Moderate threat of personal danger or risk.
• Local travel is required
• Travel outside the state is limited.
