SALARY RANGE: $15.15 to $20.50

SUMMARY:
The Cultural Resource Specialist is responsible for assisting Cultural activities at the District I Cultural Grounds and Immersion Grounds. The Cultural Resource Specialist provides resources for activities which focus on traditional teachings and also assists with the coordination of access to Elders and Traditional people to meet the needs of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe community. The Cultural Resource Specialist will work to promote cultural awareness, safety and competency while promoting traditional healing and wellness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• HS Diploma/GED
• Minimum of three years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community.
• No supervisory experience is required.
• Fair knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history; knowledge of language will be considered an asset.
• Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must possess efficient cultural skills and desire to learn more.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to problem solve and take initiative
• Some knowledge of Ojibwe Culture, Language and Harvesting.
• Moderate Communication skills; verbal and written.
• Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport.
• Must have current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with talking, teaching and healing circles, with a priority to services and supports for Indigenous children, youth and families.
• Assist activities about traditional medicines’ education, e.g. teachings, care for and use, storage, medicine bags, growing/picking, etc.
• Assist the delivery of traditional food education e.g. teachings on health benefits, harvesting, growing, preparing, storing.
• Promotion of Ojibwe Language restoration.
• Aid Elders and/or traditional resource people to conduct ceremonies as appropriate to the geographic areas and customs.
• Assist with traditional dancing, singing, drumming, community and/or seasonal celebrations/feasts, traditional and social events.
• Assist with culture/social nights and community feasts, Elder socials and Elder/senior appreciation activities and Elder/youth knowledge exchange /mentorship activities.
• Assist the implementation harvest activities, e.g. fishing, trapping, medicine picking, etc.
• Provide assistance with traditional arts & crafting activities.
• To assist in the implementation, and facilitation of new and relevant cultural services/programs within the Band.
• Assist with maintenance of a trusted traditional knowledge/Elder resource/directory.
• To provide insight and support in the development of protocols and agreements with internal and external stakeholders as directed.
• To attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences that relates to the Cultural Resource Specialist duties.
• To participate as a resource person at training sessions, committee meetings, etc.
• Assist presentations that support Cultural Resource Revitalization.
• Perform other duties relevant to the program as assigned
