Activities Program Coordinator

SUMMARY:
The Activities Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing social and physical activities designed to meet the needs of Elder clients and performs various tasks relating to Mille Lacs Band Community Support Services Program, and to manage Program activities budget in conjunction with Elder Abuse Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• One (1) or more years’ experience in secretarial field is preferred, but not absolute. Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
• Two (2) or more years’ experience working with seniors with limited physical abilities.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Experience with and understanding of Native American culture and able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to adjust to providing fast paced services or multitask performances.
• Knowledge of the Data Privacy Act and ability to maintain confidentiality of Program information.
• Computer experience working with: QuickBooks, Excel, Microsoft word and internet research.
• Supervisory experience preferred but not necessary.
• Able to comply with the Mille Lacs Band Drug & Alcohol policy.
• Must be able to pass criminal background check through the Department of Human Services as required in the Vulnerable Adults Act.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must have current driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, and be insurable under the Band’s Auto Insurance Policy.
• Must be able to pass criminal background check through the Department of Human Services as required in the Vulnerable Adults Act.
• Must understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse policy, and is familiar with the Mille Lacs Home Care Bill of Rights.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Activities Coordinator would assist seniors moderately, and determine the eligibility for activities in conjunction with Elder Abuse Director with Community Support Services.

• Able to lead Elders in conjunction of activities.
• Assist other departments with special Elder events.
• Maintains at all times, privacy and confidentially of residents living environment.
• Track, monitor, and update electronic client files.
• Assists with preparation of financial requests/check requests for Activities program and ensures that all accounts are made payable through Band Revenue, includes payment out to vendors.
• Outreach, and implement a home study and safety plan to all MLB Elders.
• Understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse policy, and is familiar with the Mille Lacs Home Care Bill of Rights.
• Assist Elders in developing interpersonal relationships in socializing effectively and in developing the confidence need to participate in group activities.
• Must be compassionate and demonstrate good interpersonal and ethical awareness.
• Promotes independence, not dependence with residents, offering choices and foster self-help skills.
• Must have knowledge of crafts and games, record keeping procedures, activity procedures and knowledge of the community events.
• Establish and maintain a computerized and hard copy filing system.
• Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that the incumbent experiences frequent periods of moderate stress levels while dealing with clients, family members, and others.
• Work is mostly in doors in a controlled climate area; however outdoor activity is necessary when necessary. Little threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours are mostly evenings and weekends, at times will vary.
• Will involve working with many different people who maybe distressed in some way.
• Local travel is required; travel outside the state is very limited.
