Lead Instructor-Trainer (DII)

SALARY RANGE: $37,500 to $56,300

SUMMARY:
The Lead Instructor/Trainer designs, implements and teaches educational programs for adults and youth, and develops and administers programs for adult continuing education. The Lead Instructor/Trainer must work with other program staff to be able to identify and implement training and educational opportunities to meet the needs of both youth and adult participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A bachelor’s degree in education/vocational or a similar field is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years prior experience in the education/vocational field is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience preferred.
• A valid, current Minnesota teacher’s license is required.
• Understanding of Native American culture and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required, five (5) years working in Native American communities is preferred.
• Must adhere to confidential information in accordance with Data Privacy Act.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft office systems.
• Knowledge of State GED requirements and procedures.
• Ability to write effectively to prepare reports, memorandums, policies and procedures.
• Ability to design and teach or facilitate groups of adults.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others is required.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, proof of current insurance coverage, and insurability under the Band’s Automobile Insurance Policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• This positions is grant funded and is dependent upon the continued funding of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s P.L 102-477 grants program.
• A staff person with direct contact with or access to children in care must disclose the arrest, conviction, and applicant background information if that staff person:
(a) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed:
- a crime against a child;
- an act of physical or sexual abuse;
- neglect;
- a felony;
- the same or similar crimes as those in this subsection listed in the laws of another state or of the United States or of any Tribal law;
(b) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed any misdemeanor offense under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children. The Licensing Committee may evaluate the nature and time of a misdemeanor assault charge as well as other types of misdemeanor crimes not specified in this section to determine whether employment is appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Determine class/course content based on community and participant input.
• Develop curriculum, order and/or develop appropriate course materials.
• Conduct courses/classes as needed.
• Create means to collect and measure feedback from course participants on course content, teaching methods, delivery style, etc.
• Provide guidance to other staff; may be required to assist in program facilitation.
• Develop and implement cultural programs by partnering with community resources from each district.
• Works in collaboration with other Aanjibimaadizing Programs and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe departments.
• Customize instruction to meet the needs of each participant, focusing on building interpersonal relationships, problem solving, decision-making, group membership, critical thinking, and learning skills and styles.
• Research training opportunities to promote job skills development in all districts.
• Counsel students to sustain class attendance and performance.
• Establish and administer a lending library for program participants in each district.
• Provide a suitable learning environment for all adult learners.
• Data collections, maintain records, and compile reports on the utilization of the program.
• Maintain a filing system and database of the records of program participants and ensure program compliance as well as grant compliance.
• Represents the Aanjibimaadizing program at conferences and seminars.
• Track participant hours of education and educational activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that Lead Instructor/Trainer experiences occasional period of moderate stress levels.
• Work is exclusively indoors in a controlled climate area with little threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and may include evenings and weekends.
• Local travel is required. Limited travel out of state travel may be required.
