SALARY RANGE: $56,000.00-$84,000.00

SUMMARY:
This position will assist the Director of Government Affairs and the Mille Lacs Band in achieving its regional relationship building goals in East Central Minnesota through work that enhances the Band's image and improves and expands local partnerships. The Area Relations/Special Projects coordinator will assist with the management of department budget, expenditures and procurement. Attend local, state, tribal and federal meetings as needed. This position will also be responsible for the GOTV project, data collection, and research activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor degree in business, political science, public administration, or similar field is required; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least five years administrative experience and familiarity with Tribal Governance required.
• Knowledge of tribal sovereignty and Mille Lacs Band treaty rights.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish relationships with key leaders at the state and federal level.
• Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines.
• Desire to help create a better future for the Mille Lacs Band.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist Director by developing a plan to capitalize on opportunities to improve the Band's image locally by improving relationships and attracting new partners.
• Assist Director and Mille Lacs Band Elected and Appointed officials by organizing, coordinating, and implementing a strategy to improve the Band's image and standing in the region thus adding value to Band lobbying and advocacy efforts.
• Monitor and analyze relevant studies and research projects undertaken by outside organizations (including state and federal agencies) to help improve local relationships. Report such analysis to Director and Band elected and appointed officials as needed.
• Facilitate and coordinate meetings between Band officials and key partners in the region.
• Assist in organizing and coordinating public relations and government relations events and meetings related to issues of importance to the Mille Lacs Band.
• Assist public relations consultants with PR activities in coordination with government relations efforts.
• Assist with the organization and coordination of Band grassroots activities.
• Represent the Mille Lacs Band at various regional and statewide events.
• Assist the Director and Mille Lacs Band officials with special projects requiring analysis and reporting.
• Assist the Director in planning and coordination of events and meetings of importance to Mille Lacs Band officials.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is primarily in doors in a controlled climate area.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but extra hours may be necessary to meet deadlines and maintain workload. Will involve some evening or weekend working.
• Local and out of state travel is required.
